FAQs

If you’ve never been in therapy, the thought of setting your first appointment might seem as scary and intimidating as the problem causing you to seek counseling in Boca Raton. It may even cause some stress. Our priority at Morgan Center for Counseling is to make you feel welcome and relaxed. Here is some information that will help make your search for counseling easier.

You will be greeted by your therapist and brought back into a comfortable and private office setting. Our new client paperwork is usually provided to you in advance, so we will go over it and discuss some basic questions. During the first session I will work to help you feel at ease so that you feel comfortable and safe sharing your history and reasons for coming to therapy. This allows me to get to know you, your strengths and resources, and better understand the nature and background of your particular situation.

Initial sessions are usually 90 minutes and subsequent sessions are about 50-55 minutes.  To the extent you require longer or shorter sessions, we will discuss that and make appropriate arrangements

Morgan Counseling does not sit on any insurance panels. This means we are an out of network provider.  You may contact your insurance company prior the first session and ask how much they will reimburse you if you choose an out of network LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker). Upon request, I will provide you with a detailed bill for your sessions with all information the insurance company requires (often called a Superbill) and you may submit it directly to your insurance company for applicable reimbursement.

Many who practice counseling in Boca Raton choose not to participate with insurance panels for various reasons.  One example is that in order to submit an insurance claim, an insurance company requires your therapist to provide a diagnosis code. Some therapists believe this diagnosis code is a “label” of sorts and prefer not to be required to produce a diagnosis about their clients. Some clients do not want to have a record of a diagnosis on file with an insurance company. Some therapists prefer not to share your information (such as treatment plans and diagnosis codes) with insurance companies to better protect your confidentiality.  Another concern is that today, insurance companies often restrict the type and duration of care that can be provided, including limitations on the number and length of sessions you are allowed – regardless of your therapist’s assessment of your needs.  Insurance companies may require pre-approval in order for you to get counseling, even when no such approval is required for medical treatment. While there are many reasons to seek treatment without insurance, Morgan Center staff understand that therapy is an investment and can be costly. For this reason, Morgan Center will work with clients to make sure they have all they need to use their insurance benefits.  If requested, we will provide the required documentation so that you may submit a claim to your insurance company for reimbursement under your out-of-network benefits.

Therapy provides an empathetic environment where you can be heard. Your therapist will hold that space for you. When the client and therapist are working well together you can expect to gain new insights into your situation, clearer thinking, better understanding of feelings and needs, and often the release of troubling emotions. Therapy is a process and depends on how effectively you use the process and implement what you learn. Additional benefits you derive from therapy are:

  • Attain better understanding of yourself, your personal goals and values
  • Develop skills to improve your relationships
  • Find resolution to the concerns/issues that brought you to therapy
  • Learn new ways to cope with stress and anxiety
  • Manage anger, feelings of sadness, and other emotional pressures
  • Learn better communication skills that help you get needs met and set healthy boundaries
  • Break old patterns by changing negative thinking and beliefs that drive unhealthy behaviors
  • Explore new ways to solve problems
  • Increase self-esteem and confidence

People seek therapy for a multitude of reasons. For many it is a safe environment where they feel heard by someone who understands, will listen objectively, and has been trained to provide help. Everyone faces difficult circumstances in life and there is nothing wrong with asking for extra support when you need it. By taking this step, you are acknowledging where you are in life and making a commitment to make positive changes where you can. In fact, it is not a weakness to ask for help but is a strength to face your situation. People seeking therapy are willing to take responsibility for their actions, work toward self-change and live in greater self-awareness.  Those who reap the benefits of therapy often live happier lives.

The length of time in therapy depends on many factors as therapy is unique to the individual and the issues addressed. Some of these factors include the type of therapy, your goals, severity and complexity of the problem you are experiencing, and available social support. Your active engagement in treatment and comfort making changes also plays a role.

Yes. There are laws that protect the communication between a client and therapist. Morgan Center for Counseling and Wellbeing will not disclose information about you or even acknowledge that you are a client without your written permission. However, here are some legal exceptions to this rule:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependent or elder abuse. The therapist is required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person(s). The therapist must notify the police and inform the intended victim(s).
  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself. The therapist will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, further measures may be taken without their permission to ensure their safety.
